This week was one of the busiest weeks I’ve had this year, packed with school events. It was also one of the more tiring and unproductive weeks, and I felt my social battery deplete by Friday. However, I got to experience some new things this week, and even check off some things off my bucket list!
Feb 14: Valentine’s Day
I celebrated Valentine’s Day with my friends and boyfriend, and it was a lot of fun! I made origami hearts for my friends, and wrote personalised messages inside each of them. Everyone really liked them!
For Kevin, I bought him a lego set of a Siberian Husky from Kmart, since he absolutely loves lego. I also wrote him a nice card and put lipstick marks all over the envelope. My mum also decided she wanted to contribute, and gave me a random yellow bouncy ball to give to him T-T. To top it all off, I put the presents inside a Peter Alexander gift bag, that had a very cute dog on the front. It was very random, but it seemed fitting for the presents I had gotten for him.
In return, Kevin got me brown sugar milk tea (my favourite bubble tea >>) the day before from Gongcha. On Valentine’s Day, he gifted me the remaining lego flowers he bought for our 1 year anniversary, a red rose, sour patch kids, and a big block of Kit Kat!
During period 2, I helped the leadership team and the house captains with the serenades. We went around to a few classes and got to sing and embarrass both kids and teachers. It was really funny, and we were all very exhausted afterwards.
I also took some photos in front of the valentine’s day backdrop, with my friends and Kevin <3
Feb 15: Swimming Carnival & Aqua Splash
It seems like tradition, or sheer "luck" that our school’s swimming carnival is held on the worst weather imaginable. It was raining the entire time we were at Gosford swimming pool, but thankfully they had decided to heat the pool for once.
I wanted to participate in as many events as I could, but due to the weather, I decided to just go in the Salmon race. For those who don’t know what that is, the Salmon race is a novelty event where everyone lines up in their colour houses; Rowe, Wheeler, Kingsbury, or OSU. The aim of the event is to get as many people to the other end of the pool in 10 minutes, and you can swim multiple times. It’s a very fun, but chaotic event – you will see why in a second. I ended up swimming 3 laps, but unfortunately had an accident on my last lap.
A Year 11 had dived before me, and I dived in soon after him. He was doing a breakstroke kick, as I dived straight into the pool and ended up getting kicked in the face. He seemed concerned though, and immediately asked if I was okay, to which I replied "I think I’m concussed." He told me I shouldn’t swim and get out of the pool, but I told him I would be fine and that I would finish the lap. Afterwards, I went to the teacher staffroom to get myself an icepack, and the teacher almost had to call the ambulance since I technically had a head injury. After waiting for 30 minutes for my parents to call me back, I was allowed to leave the staffroom.
My Year Advisor, Mr Abra, had organised an unofficial Year 12 excursion to Aqua Splash right after the swimming carnival. The salty water was very cold, but we still had a lot of fun on the inflatable course. I got pushed into the water a few times (unwillingly), and 50 minutes flew by, in comparison to the 6 hour swimming carnival.
Overall, this week was really fun! It’s crazy that it was my last swimming carnival ever, but I’m glad to experience these things one last time!
