Here are 5 things you might not know about me!
1. I listen to Gangsta Rap Music
Most people get quite surprised when they find out about my music taste – a mix of rap, pop, dance, indie, and K-pop.
2. I wasn’t born in India
I remember playing 2 truths and a lie back in Year 5, and everyone thought I was born in India. While my parents raised me in India, I was actually born in Ajman, United Arab Emirates!
3. I’ve been playing the alto saxophone for 7 years
I was first interested in playing the flute in Year 3, but ended up playing the alto saxophone as there weren’t many people playing that instrument. I progressed from training band to concert band during primary school and then got a 3-year music scholarship at the Central Coast Conservatorium. In Year 6, I joined the Premier Wind Ensemble (also known as Superband) at the Conservatorium and then moved up to the Symphonic Wind Ensemble when I started high school. I am currently in Concert Band 1 at school, as well as SWE at the con.
4. I had an identity crisis in 2020
2020 was a challenging year for all of us, and after some personal issues occurred, I had an identity crisis. This jeopardized my well-being and my mental health, and I didn’t know who I was as a person anymore. These issues made me open up my eyes to the rest of the world, and it truly struck me then how much I and my surroundings had changed.
5. I was the only Asian in my entire grade in primary school
I only realised that I was the only Asian in my entire grade in primary, after I started high school. It made me feel both sad and happy because although I was treated just the same as my other friends, I didn’t have a strong multicultural background or friends with the same background as me. Coming into high school really opened up my eyes to different religions, beliefs, traditions, and cultures, and made me appreciate and reflect upon my cultural background and upbringing.
