It seems to me, that we consume a lot more information than creating something.
In our world today, the ratio of creation to consumption is definitely unbalanced. We are force-fed knowledge that we might not completely understand and are expected to apply that knowledge when creating a project.
For example, schools make us consume information every day, and we only put it into practice when we a) have to understand what we are forced to consume, and b) have to apply this knowledge when creating a project.
The consumption of knowledge is like memorising a textbook for a test. You might know what the answers are, but you might not understand why those answers are the right ones. I think creation helps people to put in practice their knowledge, and see if they actually understand what they have supposedly learnt.
That’s why the ratio of creation to consumption is important. There’s no point in consuming knowledge if we can’t even put it into practice. Those who consume knowledge may know answers to tests, but those who consume knowledge and create something – those are the people who really understand what they’re doing. Those who create more than they consume understand more and are seen as successful and creative.
In the end, what matters more? The consumption of content, or the creation of content?
