I have so much to do, but so little time to do it in. From school, blogging and extracurricular activities, it seems so hard to find time to do everything.
Growing up, we don’t realise how fast time flies by. 6 years of primary school seems like a long time, right? Looking back now, I don’t even remember half of it.
So how do we complete all the things we “need” to do, with the limited time that we have?
The answer is prioritising.
I recently started reading this book called Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy. The author talks about prioritising our tasks, ways to stop procrastinating, and how we can be motivated.
To prioritise our tasks, we need to classify them by using the “ABCDE” method. This method helps us to prioritise our most important tasks, the ones that you usually would procrastinate, but impact you greatly in either the short or the long term.
Brian Tracy says ‘If you have to eat two frogs, eat the ugliest one first.’ This simply means that if you have two tasks to complete, you should prioritise and complete the biggest, hardest and most important task first. You should discipline yourself to begin immediately, persisting at that task until you’re finished, and then move onto something else.
Prioritising and completing your biggest, and most important frog first will greatly impact and motivate yourself. At the end of a difficult task, you feel motivated to do more work, and are able to focus on ‘eating other frogs’.
So instead of waiting for the last minute to do that 800 word English essay or the speech for that presentation next week, prioritise your biggest, hardest tasks, and finish those first. Prioritising all your tasks will make your life so much easier, and you will find yourself more motivated to do more tasks. Instead of neglecting your most important tasks, start with those, and complete those small things afterwards. I guarantee that you will find time for everything, but to do that, you need to start with your biggest, ugliest frog.
Prioritise your tasks, prioritise your life. Eat those big, bad frogs first, and leave those small frogs for later. At the end of it all, those ugly frogs will change your life the most, so why not just focus on them from the beginning?
