Over the past 2 years of being a student at a selective high school, I’ve picked up some handy studying tips and tools. While primary school did prepare me for some content that I was expected to know in high school, I’ve found that many important life skills aren’t taught to us.
Here are some studying tips and tools to know!
Use a diary or a planner
Using a diary or a planner is very helpful for school and organising what you need to do. I’ve found that writing down my homework or assignments is very helpful, especially because it’s just easier for me to have a plan on what I need to do.
Use apps
Using apps is also particularly helpful when organising your tasks. Some of my favourite organisation apps are My Study Life, Google Drive, Gmail, Trello, Quizlet and Anki. These apps help me organise different aspects of my life, and I definitely recommend that you try to find apps that work for you.
The Pomodoro Technique
The Pomodoro technique is a great technique that helps you study, or focus intently on one thing. Set a timer for 25 minutes, and try to eliminate as many distractions as you can, before studying or doing a task. Using this technique helps you to break down your work into smaller, manageable chunks.
Prioritise your tasks
Prioritising your tasks is a great way to visualise what tasks are important and will be the most beneficial for you in the short and long term.
Get a good night’s sleep
Science has shown that when you are sleeping, your brain is being cleared of poisonous toxins. Not getting a sufficient amount of sleep means that you won’t be able to concentrate properly and you will be physically and mentally affected in the short and long term. Some physical side effects of not getting a good night’s sleep are headaches, tiredness, and lack of concentration.
These are just a few study tips that I’ve picked up, and I hoped you are inspired to try some of these!
