Oprah once said “The only person you have control over is yourself. You can change how you see a situation or remove yourself from it, but you cannot change the other person.”
Even though I have no control over others or their actions, I still have control over myself. I think we sometimes try to control others, but then, in the process, we lose our own self-control.
Although we have don’t have any control over others, we still imagine situations/scenarios of how they might react to a piece of news or something that we do.
Here are some phrases that I wish people would tell me more…
- You’re beautiful
- You’re perfect just the way you are
- You don’t need to be fixed, because you were never broken in the first place
- I love you
- I appreciate you because…
- Thank you for…
- There are always people who will care about you no matter what, and I’m one of those people
- I love your smile
- I love your laugh
- You aren’t a problem, and you will never be one
- You aren’t weak. You’ve just been strong for too long
- You’re the best
- I’m here for you
- I’m here with you
- I’ll always be by your side
- Would you like some food? 😉
- You’re pretty
- I love how your eyes light up when you’re truly happy
- I like you
In the end, people aren’t able to read your mind. They aren’t always going to say the “perfect response” or do the “correct” thing. I guess, when you realise these things, you want to be the role model of what you want other people to be like. Sounds kind of crazy, and I admit it – it is. To put it simply, I tell people things that I want to hear but never do. Simple phrases like “I love you” and “you’re beautiful” are overlooked by so many people. These simple sentences make a person’s day, and it’s so meaningful when people put emotion into it and say them. I don’t think we hear these things enough.
My challenge for you is to text, call, or talk to someone, and tell them one meaningful thing. A simple phrase can make all the difference!
