It’s been a hot minute since I wrote my last blog post, and I know I said I would try to write more often, but I did not.
Sorry guys.
But this week, I forced myself to get out my laptop, asked Kevin for some advice on what to write and am trying my best not to delete every sentence I write.
My Dad always says that the more you write, the easier it gets, but I don’t agree. Maybe it’s because I haven’t been blogging often, but I feel cheesy every time I start writing a blog post. Like, how the heck do I begin?
"Hey Hey Hey" was one strong contender for this blog post, but I decided against it.
This week, I had a lot of free time on my hands cause it’s officially the middle of Term 1 School Holidays. I was going to write a blog post reviewing my Term 1 habits and whatnot, but I was too lazy.
Despite that, I tried to keep myself occupied. So here’s all the things I managed to do this week!
Monday 15 April
- Sax Lesson: We just blasted through a bunch of songs that I hadn’t played in a while. It really made me work on my sight-reading and memory in terms of trying to remember how the song went. It was quite fun though, not really caring about perfection but rather just having fun and playing music.
- Fridge Shopping: My mum was on the lookout for a fridge and freezer, so we had a look at some options.
- Economics: I reflected and improved my recent economics essay, which went better than I thought. However, I realised how shitty my essay was when reading over it, so I will definitely need to do more practice on extended response questions.
- Jujitsu Training: We had a grading for the blue belts and below. It was a really fun night, despite being so hectic, and everyone did a great job and moved up a belt/tip!
Tuesday 16 April
- Maths Tutoring: We went over questions we had from our previous 2 past papers. It was helpful, but I still feel like group tutoring is not for me. I feel like I’m behind both Henri and Vanessa, and it takes a lot longer for me to understand a concept. Reflecting on my recent maths test, I feel like I need to start putting a lot more effort into maths to keep up my grades. I made a lot of silly mistakes that I could have prevented by simply doing more questions to become more familiar, and reading the question more carefully.
- David’s Brown Belt Grading: I was invited by John to help with David’s brown belt grading, which took place at Hornsby Dojo. It was a very fun, yet intense session, but I felt like it was a lot more relaxed and chill than my brown belt grading last year. David, Chloe and I all participated, even though technically Chloe and I weren’t officially grading. We got tested on the entire syllabus up to black belt, even though we technically only were going up to brown. David got his full brown belt(!!), Chloe got her brown tip, and to my utmost surprise, I got graded up to black tip!!! John also gave me the brown belt that he got from his sensei when he was learning Jujitsu, and has been passed down for a few generations to brown belts who have all gone on to get their black belt! It was really emotional and surprising, but I’m really proud of myself for this achievement.
Wednesday 17 April
- Secondbite: I volunteered at Secondbite, which I do most Wednesdays during the holidays. Mum and I went earlier than normal, and she drove the van to pick up food from Coles. It was a very busy day with lots of food with the normal amount of customers.
Thursday 18 April
- Conflict Resolution Training Camp: I had a meeting for Youth Parliament over a Teams call. It was quite interesting and I learnt a few new things such as the "Fight, Flight, Freeze, and Face" method.
Friday 19 April
- Economics: I finally did some work for Economics, and worked on building my summary notes. Economics has definitely been a challenge for me, but I’ve gotten better at it and am now utilising Anki and active recall questions to build my knowledge.
Saturday 20 April
- Date with Kevin: Kevin and I went to Oliver Brown in Hornsby. We had brunch – Belgian waffles, toast and eggs, hot chocolate and coffee, as well as tiramisu. He helped me go over my maths test, which was much needed. We met up with his parents, and Kevin drove us home. We spent the afternoon cuddling, dancing and watching Maze Runner edits.
Sunday 21 April
- Packing for Youth Parliament Camp: I’m both excited and bloody terrified for camp which is TOMORROW. I think the program will be good, but I’m nervous for the debates on Tuesday and Wednesday, since I haven’t done debating since Year 6 for a reason.
