Today we had a meeting with the entire year group, as well as the head teachers for each of the elective choices for next year. We were introduced to the new 100 hour elective courses, some which ran this year, as well as a few new ones.
This year, I chose philosophy as my 100 hour elective, and I’ve honestly really enjoyed it. My teacher was and has been very engaging, and each lesson we have had discussions about different topics or from a question the teacher posed for us. There are hardly ever any notes, and the content is very interesting to learn and think about. The learning environment is very different from my other classes – The teacher reflects from our conversations, and constantly makes us think about tough problems.
I’m not sure what I want to pick as my elective next year, as nothing currently appeals to me. Some of the courses look interesting, but some courses I wanted to previously pick such as Photography and Digital Media didn’t have many good reviews about it. I know I shouldn’t be quick to judge the courses based on what other people have said, and I know that I’ll have to take the time to think about my decision carefully.
I’m excited to choose a new elective, however I’m really sad that I won’t get to continue Philosophy. It’s been a really great elective, and has built a great foundation for my learning, as I’ve learnt to apply the skills I’ve learnt to all my subjects. I highly recommend doing philosophy if you ever get the opportunity to do so! I’ll think about my elective choices for next year as well 🙂
