Today I had the opportunity to go on a history excursion to the Sydney Jewish Museum in the city! It was such an amazing experience learning about the Holocaust in a bigger environment.
The day started off with a 2 hour bus ride to the venue, and my friend Ashita and I were stuck in a bus with the “White Cola Gang,” who were just blasting rap music the entire time LMAO. After making a quick stop at Berowra train station to pick up a few more kids, we arrived at our destination.
We made our way across to the Sydney Jewish Museum, and were seated in a small hall, where we were given a run down of the day’s plan by one of the speakers. We were then broken up into smaller groups, where we learnt more about the history of the Holocaust and the different impacts it had on Jewish people, from both a nation wide perspective, and on a personal perspective. We got to interact with different primary sources and artefacts, such as a children’s propaganda book and a medal that was given to German mothers to congratulate them for producing Aryan children.
After that, we got to listen to Egon Sonnenschein, a Holocaust survivor. His talk was very inspiring and captivating, and it was really interesting to listen to the story of a living Holocaust survivor.
From there, we were given a tour of the museum itself by a lady called Bronia. She was so sweet and lovely, and kept making eye contact with me and smiling. (ps. I wanted to hug her so badly, she was so adorable omg). We unfortunately didn’t get to see the whole museum because we ran out of time, but the architecture of the building was so pretty!
I also kept getting asked if I was comfortable being photographed by the photographer, who was taking shots for the museum. Of course, I obviously said yes, and for some reason, everyone kept staring at me the entire day??? I don’t know if they were staring at me because I looked bad, or for another reason lol T-T. Either way, they asked me to model multiple times throughout the visit 😌😏😉.
I felt like fainting while we were in the museum because we were doing the activities for around 3 to 4 hours without a break, but after we finished, I gained back energy by eating sour patch kids hehehe >>>>
We went to a park for an “extended lunch break” eHeM 30 odd minutes?? The park we went to was really pretty though, and it was beside the waterside, and we could see the harbour bridge and the opera house from where we were sitting. It made me really happy being surrounded by the city life and with the people who bring me joy, and it also made me realise how much I want to go on a date in the city >>>>>
We ended the day with another 2 and a 1/2 hour bus ride back, which took way longer than it should have, because of an accident that happened on the freeway, causing traffic T-T. We finally got back to school at 4:25, almost an hour a half after school finished lmao.
Overall, I had such a wonderful day and it was an amazing experience!
