It’s come to that moment where I can finally say that this is the end of things. As I embarked on my last first week of high-school, the reality of its meaning never actually hit me. Let me break it down for you.
On Thursday, I officially started high school as a Year 12 student, my final year at Gosford High. Unlike previous years where I usually felt anxious going back to school and seeing people, I felt no emotion whatsover about starting Year 12. Maybe it was because I had already completed one term of being a "Year 12 student" since we technically start in Term 4, or maybe it was because I was still in the holiday mode.
Either way, I somehow woke up at my regular 6:40am time, managed to pack everything and get first day of school photos taken, courtesy of my Asian mum. The first day of school itself was pretty ordinary. The day consisted of a year meeting, where the teachers congratulated us to making it thus far and told us to pull ourselves together so we can achieve our personal best in the HSC. That word was said about 10 times that assembly, I swear. I had a double free period in the morning, so I spent the time polishing and working on my English Extension 2 assessment. After that, I had double Economics, which bored me to death, and then lastly Investigating Science, where I got my first HSC results back. It was overall a very "ugh" day, and seeing my brother around the school (he started highschool at GHS too), made it much more irritating.
Here are my highlights for the past 2 days of school so far. I’m feeling pretty motivated thus far about school, and I’m trying to be more responsible and spend my time more wisely studying.
- Getting good sleep: I have to say, I’ve gotten the best sleep I’ve ever had in the past year, these last two days. I got around 7-8 hours the past 3 days, and I’ve been waking up feeling refreshed and in a good mood.
- Socialising with friends: I made an effort to talk to more people on the first day, and it went really well! I’m trying to spend more time with other people, and not get tied down to one person (aka my boyfriend)
- Spotify Premium: Amelia gave me a very late Christmas present! I was so happy when I saw the gift card, since I told her a while ago that nobody had gotten me spotify premium yet, despite being obsessed with music.
- Planning & Studying: I’ve started using the new calendar feature on Notion to plan study blocks in my day. It’s going pretty well so far, but I sometimes forget when I need to do things. I’m hoping to schedule my time to allocate more time to daily studying, rather than leaving it till last minute. I will keep posted on how this is going in a month or so!
Overall, I’m feeling pretty chill about school. I’m not sure if this is a good or bad thing, but I’m going to try my best and hopefully everything works out well in the long run!
