Yesterday, I felt like a bada$$ bougie b!tch. A great description, I know.
Honestly, my first week of Term 2 was very stressful, so I felt so much better after having some time to myself on the weekend. I ended up going for my friend’s birthday party on Saturday, followed by going to my family friends’ house. It was so great to see my friends outside of the controlled environment I call school, as well as visiting my second family.
I believe that spending time for ourselves isn’t something we don’t do enough. Whether it be catching up with friends or family, taking some bomb photographs, or just doing something you love, it’s really important to remove yourself from stressful situations like work or school, and just spend some time on yourself.
By spending time on ourselves and for ourselves, we build up resilience and become stronger as individuals. During this time, we unconsciously take time to heal from past trauma, and just do things that make us happy, without being judged by the people around us.
So whether it just be for 10 minutes, or a whole day, take some time for yourself and do something that you enjoy. Listen to music, read a book, dance – do it all, but do it for yourself. Because at the end of the day, it’s just you left, so live your life focusing on the good and the things that make you happy!
