Today was my biannual jujitsu grading! I was going for my brown tip (so blue belt with brown tip), and I honestly felt both cold and nervous before the grading had even begun.
Throughout the night, we were tested on all components of the syllabus up to the belt we were grading to. I had to do so many techniques, and also have the power, intensity and focus behind them. I definitely could have done some techniques a lot better, and overall just have more control and intensity while training, but for the most part I did really well!
We ended the night with an engine attack; when all the black belts individually pick on each person, and is a part of training where fighters apply the techniques and skills they’ve learnt in a more “realistic scenario”. They worked their way up from the yellow belts, to finally me (a blue belt). My sensei John and his daughter Rebecca, another black belt, told me I did exceptionally well during my engine attack! It was honestly really tiring and I felt out of breath even after 3 turns LMAO. But, to be fair, it was very intense – the standard which it must be if I’m going for my brown belt. I did get hit a few times, but I blocked and countered the punches I could, and applied intensity yet maintained control while doing my techniques, which is what I’m supposed to do.
All in all, I did really well, and I ended up getting my brown tip!! I’m so happy, and I can’t wait to keep training and get my full brown belt very soon!
