As we slowly come to the end of the first month of 2024, it’s important to reflect back upon the highs and lows of the month. I swear in every blog post I write “It’s crazy that…”, but it really is true. It’s crazy that it’s almost already February, and also the start of the new school year. I’m officially in Year 12, my final year of school and grind time.
This past month has been certainly crazy. I’ve achieved so much in just a short period of time, and it makes me excited and proud of myself for doing things I knew I couldn’t do a month ago. Here are some of my highlights of January:
- Lucas’ 13 Birthday: We didn’t do much year for his birthday/new years. Lucas and I went to the French family’s house on New Years for lunch and cricket, and it was pretty fun seeing old friends
- Baking/Cooking: This month, my mum was trying to teach me how to cook and bake. Over the month, I learnt how to cook friend eggs, gyozas, and baked brownies and a blackcurrent cake.
- Beach day with friends: I caught up with Kevin, Sarah, Meigo, Vincent and Matt and we spent a day out at Umina Beach. It was honestly a different group of people that I don’t always talk to, but it was really fun spending some quality time. The water was really nice and refreshing, but I got a pretty bad tan line that’s still visible.
- Getting my driver’s licence: I FINALLY got the courage to book and take my driver’s knowledge test. It was honestly pretty easy since I had done 2 years worth of driver’s test, but I’m glad I did it.
- Learning how to drive: I started learning how to drive with my Dad. The first lesson, he taught me about the order of operations, learning how to drive forward, reverse, brake and accelerate. In the next 2 lessons, I practiced using my indicators and turning in the parking lot. In my fourth lesson, I finally went on the road, which was really scary but I drove all the way home! Last weekend, my Dad made me drive in Sydney and I learnt about roundabouts and how to go around them. I had a few accidents then; I accidentally crashed into a road sign after coming off the roundabout. I was too close to the kerb, so my Dad corrected the wheel, but I pressed on the accelerator instead of the brake when he said to slow down. I also got beeped at by a speeding motorcyclist after turning at another roundabout.
- Music4Life Band camp: I took part in the Central Coast Conservatorium’s free band camp. It was a really fun and eventful 3 days of playing, although my lips were really sore after each day. My band played 3 pieces; Raider’s March with the NSW police band and CCYO, Stranger Things with PWE and NSW police band, and The Lost Temple.
- Reading: This month I read 15 books. My goal for this year is to read 50!
- 1 Year Anniversary: On the 31st of January is my 1 year anniversary with my bae! It’s crazy that it’s already been one year since we started dating, but I’m so grateful for the year we’ve had together. Can’t wait for the rest of forever <3
