As I grow older, I find myself being pressured more and more by social media. Many of my friends are/have tried to convince me to get social media, but they haven’t done a very good job so far.
Social media is an amazing way to connect with other people, express yourself in different ways, and see people in a different light.
While I personally don’t have social media, I have noticed the influences it has on my friends. Although I can identify many positive factors of social media, there’s also a downside to it. I’ve seen personalities change, addiction occur, and people being insecure online.
I think many people want to get social media because they want to connect with more people, and also try to “fit in” with others. I’ve found that people (including myself) have wanted to get social media because they’re scared that they are missing out on something. While this might be true, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you should get social media.
I’ve debated whether or not to get social media, and have decided to wait until I’m a bit older and mature. I don’t want to get addicted to social media apps, such as Instagram, and I don’t want to risk putting more pressure on my mental health. It’s hard enough already, trying to stay true to myself and being happy, and I don’t need the added pressures of social media.
Honestly, I don’t see the point of some social media apps, but it’s up to your personal preference whether or not you get social media. Overall, social media plays a big role in our lives, and I can see both the positive and negative impacts it has. In the end, it’s our decision whether we get social media, and if we are the ones controlling social media or vice versa.
